Lateral limiting pressure on square pile groups in undrained soil

In this paper, the lateral limiting pressure on square pile groups in undrained soil is explored using two-dimensional finite-element modelling. A parametric study conducted to assess role of pile–soil adhesion, group size and spacing capacity corresponding failure mechanisms. Results from output show that large closely spaced piles exhibit significant reductions compared equivalent single values. Significant variations load sharing across are also observed, with corner experiencing loads up 162% above average for a 25-pile group. simplified closed-form design approach developed modified Ramberg–Osgood formulation predict capacity. The proposed shown provide excellent agreement numerical results rigorous upper-bound prediction selection field data predictions determined existing guidelines.
